National President of Nigeria Cassava Growers Association [NCGA], Segun Adewumi, has said the production and export of cassava products are capable of generating N5 trillion per annum in foreign exchange for the Nigerian economy, if the sub-sector is fully explored.
Speaking on the sideline of the send-forth ceremony organised in honour of the former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in Abuja, Adewumi said the membership of the Association has grown from 10,000 to over one million over the last four years .
He expressed optimism that with the high calibre of individuals who are cassava growers in the country that the sub-sector would boost the nation’s economy and generate wealth for the country.
While appreciating the drastic change that the former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has brought to the sector, he noted that the minister has laid a solid foundation that would return the nation’s economy to the path of prosperity and progress.
