Deeper Life High School, Port Harcourt (DLHSPH), Rivers State, one of Nigeria’s flag bearers at the just concluded World Robot Olympiad (WRO), held in Qatar, finished tops in Africa in the Regular Junior High Category of the competition.

The WRO is a yearly robotics competition designed to promote technology applications, innovation and creativity among students from around the world. Each year participants from over 40 countries compete at the event.

Opubo whose firm owns the YoungStarGenius brand, the organisation that provided coaching for the pupils said, “The challenge for the world event was for students to develop a robot that could explore precious pearls in remote areas. The pupils competed with the best brains from around the world and gave a good showing.

“The event provided a good platform for learning and stimulation of their hidden genius. We hope a lot more pupils and schools would begin to appreciate the importance of ‘robotics education’ in developing science and technology in Nigeria.”

On her part, Managing Director, Arclights Limited, Lego Education partner and the national representatives of WRO in West Africa, Abisola Obasanya, urged corporate bodies and government agencies to support these schools and pupils by sponsoring robotics workshops and events around their localities.
