Buhari's Madness Increasing: Nigerians Must Stop this Mess!

Political analysts have described the alleged plot by President Muhammadu Buhari to place travelling ban on two sitting Governors, as the zenith of presidential rascality and madness taken too far.
Recall, that on Sunday, May 29, some major newspapers in the country, had published a story with the caption: “two governors under watch; face travelling ban.”
It was insinuated that the affected governors are; the Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose and Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.
“This is the highest level of presidential rascality. It is not done anywhere in the world, where a sitting governor in a democratic setting is restricted from travelling. I think this is madness taken too far,” a political analyst said.
Responding to the alleged directives, to enforce the ban, Fayose on Monday, May 30, dared Buhari to carry out the alleged plot saying; “Under the federal system of government, State governors are not appendages of the president and as a leading opposition figure in Nigeria, he cannot be cowed by Buhari and his agents.”
In a press conference addressed by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, he said: “I am not surprised or disappointed by this latest plot of the Buhari’s government, because the president that we know is a man without any atom of respect for the rights of Nigerians as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and this he demonstrated as a military dictator and now demonstrating it as a democratically elected president”.
The governor said he was however, amazed that “this dangerous dimension of compelling a sitting governor that enjoys constitutional immunity like the president, to obtain clearance from the Director-General of the Department of State Service, DSS, before travelling out of Nigerian, can never be contemplated”.
He said President Buhari and his agents should be mindful of the fact that under a federal system of government, the states and national government, both enjoy some autonomy, with sovereign power formally divided between the national government and the states, such that each state retains some degree of control over its internal affairs.
Olayinka, who was flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Idowu Adelusi, added that Buhari’s dictatorship would not be extended to the most ridiculous level of preventing a governor elected just as the president, from traveling out of the country.
“Fayose’s thought was that even though the Buhari’s presidency was capable of even attempting to prevent those opposed to the president from breathing the air, it must still be sane enough to be conscious of the consequences of placing any Nigerian under travel ban without an order of the court, not to ‎talk of a sitting governor who enjoys constitutional immunity like the president.
“We have no other option than to once again alert the public on President Buhari’s new dictatorial plot to infringe on the constitutional rights of Fayose, just because of his critical position on the president’s dictatorial tendencies.
“The question is; if Fayose has become a threat to the security of Nigeria just because he criticises President Buhari and says the truth about his mis-governance of the country, is this not a confirmation that the president hates dissenting views?
“Section 35 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) provides that; “Every person shall be entitled to his personal liberty and no person shall be deprived of such liberty,” while Section 41 (1) provides that “Every citizen of Nigeria is entitled to move freely throughout Nigeria and to reside in any part thereof, and no citizen of Nigeria shall be expelled from Nigeria, or refused entry thereto, or exit therefrom.‎
“Article 13 (1) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to which Nigeria is a signatory provides that, ‘Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the border of each State, while Article 13 (2) provides that Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and return to his country,’ ditto Article 12 (2) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
“President Buhari and his agents should also be mindful of the fact that under a federal system of government, the states and national government both enjoy some autonomy, with sovereign power formally divided between the national government and the states such that each state retains some degree of control over its internal affairs.
“Therefore, the president cannot lord himself over any state governor and President Buhari and his agents should accept this basic reality and stop behaving as if they own Nigeria in totality.
“President Buhari and his agents, especially his kinsman; Alhaji Lawal Daura of the DSS need to purge themselves of this blood of dictatorship running in their veins and be guided by the constitution of Nigeria.
“Even ordinary Nigerians do not require clearance from the DSS or any security agency to travel outside Nigeria unless travel restriction is placed by an order of the court, let alone state governors who enjoy immunity just like the president and are not under the control of the president.
“The president and his agents should know that this is not 1984, when he as a military dictator, prevented the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, from travelling outside Nigeria for medical treatment, thereby leading to his (Awolowo) untimely death in 1987!
“They should also be reminded that, the same way Buhari humiliated the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade; late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero and late Obi of Onitsha, Ofala Akulalia Alphonsus Ogugua, in 1984 by seizing their passports and restricting them to their palaces, just because they traveled to Israel for business, he cannot restrict state governors from travelling outside Nigeria under whatever guise.
“I therefore wish to state on behalf of Governor Ayodele Fayose, that as an opposition figure, he cannot be cowed by this pettiness from the presidency.‎
“Anytime Fayose wishes to travel out Nigeria, he will do so in the full glare of the public and we await how he will be prevented from exercising his rights as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended), as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
“We also wish to inform the President and his DSS men, that as they were disgraced when they invaded Ekiti State House of Assembly, arresting members of the House indiscriminately, they will be put to shame this time too.
“Also, the National Assembly is being alerted of this new threat to the Constitution of Nigeria by those who swore to protect it. Members of the National Assembly should by now begin to imagine what will be their fate, if attempt is now being made to place travel restriction on state governors.
“It is our considered view that President Buhari should rather concern himself with the growing insecurity in the country and charge the security agencies, especially the DSS, to perform their functions as enshrined in the constitution, instead of running after petty issues.
“The president should focus his attention on the economy of Nigeria that is almost collapsing and stop using his position to oppress other Nigerians. He should know that Nigerians are only interested in having food on their tables, not the number of people their president hounds into detention or oppress with his powers”.

Shocking! Tinubu Berates Buhari's Cluelessness!

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, has attacked President Muhammadu Buhari, over his 365 days of economic cluelessness and non performance, adding that integrity alone does not put food on the table of the common man.
Tinubu, stated this through the Nation Newspaper Editorial Chairman,‎ Sam Omatseye, in a column titled, “When the bell rings twice” dated Monday, May 30, 2016.
He lamented that the poor are getting poorer, with no single kilometre of road tarred, coupled with the ravaging Niger Delta Militants.
Tinubu’s outburst came at a time when the Buhari-led federal government is gradually losing popularity amidst excruciating economic downturn.
Post-Nigeria had reported that it took the urgent intervention of Tinubu to halt the three days strike embarked upon by the Ayuba Wabba-led faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.
The sudden intervention by the ‘Jagaban’ to end the strike without seeking clearance, had angered the presidency, thereby prompting Buhari to quickly call off his proposed visit to Tinubu’s home state, Lagos allegedly.
While reacting to Buhari’ s democracy day speech, through Sam Omatseye, the former Lagos State Governor berated Buhari for the myriad of problems confronting the nation.
He said: “Not Many thought the first year of Muhammadu Buhari would look like this. The pump price of petrol at 145, the naira at 350 to a dollar, not a single road tarred, the 2016 Budget in baby steps, no minister has received a tranche for work, salary backlogs now a routine, herdsmen as killer squads, Biafra on the rampage, Niger Delta brigands reborn, a Labour strike, the President has only visited one state on official trip, his plane has landed on four continents, the change mantra muted.
“Yet, if you go to the streets, there is no rage or less rage or impotent rage, but a sense of paralysis. The average Nigerian, including those who did not vote for Buhari, are not willing to pelt indignation. They feel poor, even ‎poorer. Power that spewed out radiance in the first few months of his administration has returned to its habitual epilepsy. Jobs? Where are they? The welfare scheme and food for students? Not on the cards today”.
Explaining the hardship that an average Nigerian is passing through, Tinubu added, “Many cannot pay rents, many squeeze out meals, wards cannot face their principals for lack of fees.
“Patience is tested everywhere. Those who are asking for it, are also being asked for it. Yet, Buhari is Teflon, rising somewhat above popular anger.
“Much of it, ironically, can be attributed to Buhari himself. The people at the hem are not yet angry with the man at the helm”.
The APC chieftain affirmed that Buhari has only turned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, into a vault of revelations.
“This man stole that, that smaller man stole that bigger sum. The newspapers became headlines of statistical horror of billions of naira and dollar,” Tinubu mocked.
He added: “All the peacock men in the Jonathan era, who suffused us with righteous rhetoric, of brokered ethnicity and marketed shoelessness, have become the fingers of impunity or retreated into priestly or pastoral silences.
“Perhaps for the first time since independence, we have an elected president whose finger is not suspected of pecuniary mischief. He might have flown to Asia, Europe and the United States, and slept in the luxury of jets and high-flown hotels. He is not in any suggestion of a narrative of stealing.
“We also know that integrity is good, but no matter how good, it will not put food on the table. There lies the moral dilemma of the Buhari era so far”.

#IlliteracyShallNotRuleUs! Buhari's Missing Certificate Saga Now Trending

An Abuja court has thrown out Buhari's request to quash the court injunction against his educational qualification for the post of president in Nigeria.
A Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ademola Adeniyi, is under fire from chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for endorsing a suit challenging President Muhammadu Buhari’s eligibility to contest the 2015 presidential election.

Justice Adeniyi had last Thursday dismissed a preliminary objection filed by President Buhari against a suit by an Abuja based lawyer, Mr. Nnamdi Nwokocha Ahaiiwe, challenging his (Buhari’s) eligibility to contest the presidential election on the ground that he does not have a school certificate, the basic educational qualification set out by the Constitution for a candidate seeking to run for the office of President.

Ahaiiwe had joined the APC as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants in the suit which was filed in February 2015.

Ruling on the case, Justice Adeniyi, grandson of the first indigenous Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Adetokunbo Ademola, dismissed all applications by the defendant as lacking in merit, maintaining that the suit filed by Ahaiiwe was as competent as the service on Buhari and APC.

A top APC chieftain, who spoke to The AUTHORITY in confidence, described the judge’s ruling as “a calculated attempt to embarrass President Buhari and the APC”.

He noted that: “We in APC find the ruling more embarrassing, considering that it came three days to our first anniversary in office,” adding that, “we strongly suspect that the said judge is working for the opposition (Peoples Democratic Party, PDP).”

Another APC chieftain blamed the President’s team of lawyers for “treating the matter with levity, having won the elections,” warning that such a suit was capable of throwing up unpleasant surprises for his party.

He said: “We are not lawyers and are therefore not in a position to know what is going on in the courts. I heard that our team of lawyers abandoned the matter, having not been paid by those who felt that the election had been won and lost. If we had a proactive Attorney-General of the Federation, he ought to have followed up and avoided this embarrassment. It is even more embarrassing if the courts establish that President Buhari, who has been fighting corruption, has no school certificate.”

Many feared killed as soldiers, pro-Biafran activists clash
Several persons including a soldier were allegedly killed today during a clash between soldiers and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The clash occurred during celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the defunct Biafra republic. The late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu had declared the Republic of Biafra on May 30, 1966.
The anniversary celebration turned bloody when soldiers of the 312 Artillery Brigade confronted the IPOB members, who had blocked major streets.
It was gathered that the IPOB members had taken to the street as early as 6am, some of them naked to mark the anniversary.

In the process, the pro-Biafra group blocked most major streets in Onitsha around the Niger Bridge head area, causing most people to remain indoors.
Markets in Onitsha were also closed as a result of the anniversary that turned bloody.
An eye witness told our correspondent that “most of the killings were done at Nkpor, a suburb of Onitsha, where IPOB had chosen to celebrate the Biafra Day”.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Alli Okechukwu, confirmed the incident, but declined to give details about the lives lost.
“We are busy clearing the blocked roads in Onitsha, to ensure that normalcy returns. We are not counting the number of casualties at the moment,” he said.

2016 Budget: FG to Spend N275m on Mosques, Townhalls, Viewing Centres in Bauchi

OrderPaperToday – The 2016 Appropriation Act contains provisions for construction of Viewing Centres, Town halls and renovation of Mosques in Bauchi State amounting to the tune of N275 million.

Although the Federal Government has remained unmoved by calls to make details of the budget public, OrderPaper.ng can authoritatively report that the Act contains several mind-boggling proposals that indicate huge padding, misplacement of priorities, and wrong imputation into Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that are inappropriate for implementation.

The Mosques, Town halls and Viewing Centres projects are captured in the Act under the Federal Ministry of Works, Power, Housing where immediate past governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, is minister.
In one of the items entitled, “Renovation of worship centres in Gori Mosque, Dass Central Mosque, Bununu Mosque and Lere Mosque in Bauchi State,” the sum of N80million (Eighty million naira) was allocated to the projects.
The other item is entitled “Construction of Viewing Centres at Nabal, Dull, Duglum, Dutsen, Goggo, Kurumdodo, Dashem Bakin Kogi, and Gital in Bauchi State,” has a provision of N70million (Seventy million naira)
The Town Hall projects also in Bauchi State has a provision of N125million (One hundred and twenty-five million) for areas in Gambar, Zulla, Yamar, Tapshin and Gambar Zugum.
The Ministry of Works, Power and Housing has the highest budgetary allocation in the 2016 Appropriation Act which was signed on May 6 after several months of delay and buck-passing between the Executive and Legislature. The ministry’s budget for Capital Projects if N422,964,928,495.
It is not clear how the renovation of Mosques and construction of Town Halls and Viewing Centres in a State have become the business of the Federal Government to have attracted an allocation of N275million.

Senate President Dismisses Rumours of Sharia Bill at the NASS

Just as some sections of the Nigerian media had raised an alarm over a proposed Sharia bill in the National Assembly, Nigeria's Senate President has dismissed rumours about it in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

We reported it here that in an interview with Premium Times on Thursday, a member of the House of Representatives, Abdullahi Salame, admitted that the controversial pro-Sharia bill which he sponsored, was backed up by the speaker, Yakubu Dogara, who advised him to speed up the bill quietly through a second reading to avoid controversy because he recognised that the bill could draw public outrage, and urged him not to make noise about the bill.

As the news of the second passage of the bill went viral online, it generated a lot of mixed reactions and criticisms from Nigerians.

In a swift reaction, the embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki, dismissed the viral reports about an impending Sharia Bill in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
Saraki was responding to an inquiry from one a Twitter user, Olatunji Fayomi who asked the
Senate president to make the Sharia Bill available to Nigerians before it is passed into law.

Investigations reveal that the bill which passed the second reading to alter Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution to increase the jurisdiction of the Sharia Court, is in the offing in the House of Representatives, but it is restricted to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and the Northern states.

The sponsor of the bill, 55-year-old Abdullahi Salame, who represents Gwadabawa/Illela constituency in Sokoto State, has told correspondents that the bill is not extending Sharia, but actually extending the existing Sharia Court’s jurisdiction.

The one-time speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, said;
"It doesn’t mean we can take Sharia to Ekiti, Enugu or Port Harcourt, what the bill is all about is the expansion of the jurisdiction of the Sharia Court.

"You know we already have the Sharia Court, those Sharia Courts are faced with some challenges, so it is those challenges we want to overcome."

When asked if the bill would affect Christians in the North, Salame said: "At all, that is the mis-understanding of some people. The most important source of Sharia is the Quran. And the Quran said it clearly that there is no compulsion in religion.

"The Sharia Court has been there since the creation of Nigeria and there has never been a time when it affects non-Muslims, it is only for Muslims and there is no way it will affect the Non-Muslims in the North," he said.

Buhari Critically Ill, Set to be Flown Out of Nigeria - PDP Alleges

The leadership of the major opposition party in Nigeria, People's Democratic Party has alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari is currently sick and is set to be flown out of Nigeria for medical attention.

In a series of tweets, PDP has alleged that President Buhari is critically ill and set to be flown out of the country. He is currently receiving treatment in Nigeria they stated in the tweet.

It would be recalled that Buhari reportedly called off his visit to Lagos due to an 'ear infection' which was dispelled swiftly.

PDP also accused NNPC boss, Ibe Kachikwu representatives' of bribing Niger Delta avengers with $10m.The amount was given to them after a meeting held at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

Further tweet have it that Ibe Kachikwu who brokered the deal on behalf of the federal government was scammed by fake representatives after the Niger Delta Avengers went ahead to blow up another oil facility immediately the funds exchanged hands.

Trouble Looms! Dana Airline Pilots Proceed on Nation-wide Strike

As a result of non-payment of salaries since March, some pilots are protesting with a strike action as passengers of Dana Airlines are stranded nationwide.

According to reports, passengers of Dana Airlines are currently stranded nationwide as a result of a strike by pilots who are protesting non-payment of salaries as they have not been paid since March.

TheCable was told that despite the ongoing strike, the airline has continued to sell tickets and check in passengers even with the knowledge that there may be no flights, but it was gathered that some passengers were informed at the check-in counter that there would be a 'slight delay.'

At the Abuja airport, announcements were regularly made via the PA system announcing a delay by 'one hour'."The deceit is too much. But you cannot blame Dana. It is the regulatory system that allow such maltreatment of passengers that should bear the blame,” a stranded passenger said.

As at the time of filing this report, intending passengers who are unaware of the strike are still buying Dana tickets and checking in at the airport.

APC, Saintly! Kachikwu Implicated in a $10 Million Bribery Scandal

Unconfirmed reports have it that the GMD of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu has engaged in a shady backdoor agreement with marauding Niger Delta Avengers.

Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu has reportedly bribed members of the Niger Delta Avengers accused of blowing up pipeline installations across the country with a whopping sum of $10 million.

The allegation against the minister was made on Wednesday by Nigeria’s leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

According to the PDP in a statement via its official verified Twitter handle, Kachikwu released the money after a meeting at the Transcorp Hilton hotel, Abuja.

“The $10m bribe was given to representatives of Niger Delta Avengers after a meeting with @IbeKachikwu at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

“Mr. @IbeKachikwu appealed to the representatives of Niger Delta Avengers to plead to the militants to stop vandalization of pipelines”
, the PDP said in a set of tweets.

The PDP did not give details of the purpose of the alleged bribe.

Efforts to contact Kachikwu’s office for comments proved abortive at the time of this report. Nigeria has reportedly lost at least one million barrels of crude oil daily in the past one month and power sector output brought down to miserable level of less than 1,000MW owing to activities of the Niger Delta Avengers.

TSA Headache: N1.9 Billion Police Funds Trapped- IG

The Inspector General of Police has raised an alarm about the massive funds of the Nigerian Police Force currently held back in the TSA which is affecting its security operations.

The Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr. Solomon Arase, stated on Wednesday that over N1.9 billion of its funds in the Treasury Single Accounts (TSA) is trapped because of garnishee following cases instituted against it in different courts.

The IG said the fund cannot be accessed because civil actions brought against the Police are either not defended or poorly defended, adding that many result in the award of damages and eventual garnisheeing of its accounts.

He said: “If this situation is not urgently addressed, the Police may not be able to perform its functions as the limited budgetary allocations will be needlessly lost through garnishee actions.”
The police boss made the disclosure at the 2016 annual Police Lawyers Conference and the Inauguration of Officers and Council Members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Police Lawyers Forum in Abuja.

He said the inauguration of the forum is also aimed at enhancing the capacity of the 500 Police officers who are lawyers, and who occupy a central role in the administration of criminal justice sector.

Arase said he plans “to reduce conduct and practices that result in suits against the police and inculcate in them the culture of effective and efficient strategies in the defence of civil cases and actions against the Police wherever they occur to reduce financial losses by the garnisheeing of police accounts.

“But my experience has shown that the over five hundred lawyers in the employment of the Nigeria police have not fully assumed this responsibility.”
