Saraki Denies Forming New Party; Declares Support For PMB

Bukola Saraki, the Senate president has denied speculations that he is in alliance with some prominent politicians to form a new party ahead of the 2019 general elections and also reiterated his support for President Muhammadu Buhari who he said he had a cordial relationship with.

Daily Independent reports that this was made known by Yusuph Olaniyonu, the special adviser to the Senate president on media on Wednesday, December 30.

Olaniyonu claimed that those plotting the downfall of Saraki were behind the rumour that he wanted to go and form a new party and emphasized that the Senate president was committed to the All Progressives Congress.

He said the Senate president did not contemplate forming a new party when he was trying to survive politically over the alleged false declaration of asset trial.

The media adviser said: “It is a stupid claim by some unscrupulous elements to link the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki with the plot to form a new political party. He has pledged his allegiance to the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and nothing is going to change that”.

Just look at the cordial and perfect relationship between the President of the Federal Republic and the Senate President in recent times. Even when he had problem and had to appeared before the tribunal, it never crossed his mind to dump the APC and align with other political parties not to talk of forming a new one”.
 
“As we speak, those opposing the Senate president can no longer enter Aso Rock today but he goes there everyday. Cast your mind back on the birthday of Mr. President, how many of the accusers of the Senate president were around? Only the Senate president was there. Even on Christmas day, the senate president was there”.

“So, the talk of the Senate president ganging up with some faceless people to form a new political party is nonsense”.

“Those who have problem with the president or the party should go and sort it out themselves. The senate president does not have any problem either with the president or the leadership of the party.”
Meanwhile, Saraki advised the citizens to endeavour they behave in a way of love and peace. He also preached that the spirit of one Nigeria is needed in order to foster the growth and development of the nation.

Tinubu And Atiku Have Begun 2019 Presidential Battle

The present unrest in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been described as an outright battle for the 2019 presidency.

A report credited to Global Village Extra, quoted civil rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) to have revealed that the infighting in the ruling APC was a battle for the control of the soul of the party ahead of the 2019 elections, hence the friction among the party stalwarts.

Ozekhome noted that the battle is between the camp of former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki  and Yakubu Dogara as the senate president and house of representatives speaker respectively, against the wish of the party, has exposed the discord in the ruling party.

This has led many observers and analysts to request the sanction of Saraki and Dogara, just as the leadership of the APC described the election of the NASS leadership as gross indiscipline with a promise to sanction the new principal officers for not following the party’s directive on the election of principal officers of the National Assembly.

According to Ozekhome, the disarray in the different camps is centered around the fact that president Muhammadu Buhari may be too old to run for office by 2019, and with power likely to remain in the north, the different groups are trying to firm up their grip and affluence in the party.

“What we are seeing is the battle for 2019. It is a straight fight between the Atiku camp and Bola Tinubu’s camp. The thinking is that Buhari will be too old to run for office by then so the camps want to consolidate their grip on power before then,” the lawyer said, warning that failure to address the issue amicably would damage the survival and success of the party.

Recall that Atiku was recently sighted with some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, having a nice time with people who were supposed to be in he opposition.
