Tragedy! Sokoto Old Market Razed by Wild Fire

The popular Old Market in Sokoto State, northern part of Nigeria has been razed by wild fire with traders trying to recover the remains of their goods worth millions of naira.

Developing reports from social media reveal the Sokoto State Old market has been gutted by a mysterious fire with massive wares being destroyed in an inferno that has attracted the attention of the All Progressives Congress chieftain and Governor, Aminu Tambuwal who was reportedly on ground to assist victims as the fire engulfed a large part of the market.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. As of 11:pm yesterday, the fire was still gulping some blocks despite persistent efforts of fire fighters.

A native of Sokoto had this to say:

"I feel sorry for the traders and pray the Almighty grants them the fortitude to bear the losses.

That section of the old market is dominated by Bureau De Change operators as well as gold and jewellery merchants so one can only imagine the magnitude of the losses.

Our fire service desperately needs to to be upgraded and adequately equipped, I am almost dead sure that the lack of firefighting equipment for accessing storey buildings as well as unavailability of oxygen masks played a significant role in the difficulties of the fighters to contain the fire which had been blazing from 9pm till well past midnight.

Kudos to Governor Tambuwal who was on the scene in no time, and served as a morale booster for the fighters and traders alike. His exemplary leadership is worth of emulation and underlines his progressive brand of politics.

May the Almighty restore the losses of all affected ten-fold"
